SYATP: Engage “See You At The Pole” (SYATP) is set for Wednesday, September 23, 2009, at each area school.  Each school might do something different, as in location where it will officially take place or if it rains where to go, so each student is encouraged to pay attention to their school announcements for more information.

“SYATP” is suppose to be done around each school’s flag pole before school starts in the morning.  Again, it is scheduled for Wednesday, September 23rd.  For more information on how “SYATP” got started, go to it’s website.

Day 3 July 22, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — Strickland @ 11:25 pm

Today in VBS, it was the “salvation” portion of the week. We concentrated on Jesus dying on the cross for our sins. We had the afternoon off, so we went to Philadelphia to see and tour Independence Hall. This is where the Declaration of Independence was signed. Then, we went and saw the Liberty Bell. After supper, we headed to help pass out tracks, give out water, talk to people, share the gospel, etc. to people at the Wilmington Games. This is a “summer Olympic” game for Wilmington. It wasn’t huge, and I don’t know a lot about it, but it was a good thing for us to do. We enjoyed it.

Day3 July 20, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — Strickland @ 10:22 pm

Our first day of doing VBS went good. We had 6 children, but 2 of them did not go to the church. That’s good. After lunch, we went to do our service project for a park in DE. Some spread mulch throughout the park, and others painted some of the playground.
After we came back to Ogletown Baptist Church in Wilmington, we showered and went to Philadelphia, PA. Beautiful city! We picked up a childhood friend who ended up living in Philly. She showed us around some of the town. What we went to was: LOVE Park (technically it’s called JFK Plaza), walked South Street, ran the steps of the museum of where the movie Rocky was filmed, and saw the Rocky statue.
We did good today as a group. But, we’re tired.

“March Madness” March 19, 2009

“March Madness” is called “March Madness” because of the many basketball seasons coming to an end.  You have community regular seasons, high school regular seasons, college regular seasons, and the NBA regular season coming to an end.  After the regular seasons are over with, tournament season begins for all that were mentioned above.  It’s madness because all the teams will play their hardest in order to keep winning.  And, the goal is to be number one.  A good example of this madness is the NCAA tournaments.  Who hasn’t heard of the NCAA tournament?  If you haven’t, you’ve probably been under a rock somewhere.  So, this March in the Student Ministry, we are continuing the “madness.”

  • March 6-7–the “Student Ministry Creative Ministry Team” went to a conference put together by the Kentucky Baptist Convention at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY.
  • March 11-14–begins the “Girls Sweet 16 Basketball Tournament” at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY.
  • March 11–begin a new series at our Wednesday night student worship service called “The Well.”  The new series is called “Title.”  We will look at the names, or titles, of Christ and see what the meaning of these titles are and how it pertains to our life.
  • March 15–is our “Bed & Breakfast Sunday” and our “Student Ministry High Attendance Sunday School Day.”  We usually have our “Bed & Breakfast Sunday” on the fifth Sunday in a month, which only happens four times a year.  This is an opportunity for students to invite someone over to their house on Saturday evening to spend the night and then bring the person to church on Sunday.  Once here, we’ll have a breakfast for everyone.  Our “Student Ministry High Attendance Sunday School Day” is on this day as well.  Last year, we had a grand total of 55 in our Sunday School.  Obviously, this year the goal is to beat 55.
  • March 15–I will be preaching during the evening worship service and will continue the “March Madness” theme.  My goal is to decorate the church sanctuary stage and deliver the message from 1 John 2:28-3:3 called “The Starting Five To A Winning Team.”  Afterward, all students that are present will have the opportunity to go with me to Dairy Queen to have a “cool treat.”
  • March 17–begins the “Men’s Division 1-A NCAA basketball tournament” opening round game in Dayton, OH.
  • March 18–continue the series “Title” at “The Well”
  • March 18-21–begins the “Boys Sweet 16 Basketball Tournament” at  Kentucky University in Lexington, KY.
  • March 21–begins the “Women’s Division 1-A NCAA Basketball Tournament”
  • March 25–continue the series “Title” at “The Well”
  • March 30-April 3–Spring Break week
  • March 31–during Spring Break, I’m offering two opportunities for fellowship.  The first one is on this day, the 31st.  We’re going shopping at the West Town Mall in Knoxville, TN.  This will be a change since we usually go to Lexington, KY.  Bring money for lunch in the mall, shopping, and a good supper (we’ll eat somewhere that’s not the mall where we could get a steak or chicken…and a salad.  Get the idea?)  You must sign up and the deadline to do so is March 25.
  • April 1–the second opportunity for fellowship will be after “The Well.”  We will go bowling.  The cost is $5.00.  This includes two games and shoes only.

So, there is your “Madness” in “March.”
